What's Better LEVAQUIN OR ZITHROMAX??

I was told it is essentially the same type of antibotic (same family). Is this true?? I've had this reoccurring bronchitis infection (chronic cough) that comes at least once a year, which lasts usually more than 2 weeks. When I first starting getting this, approx. 10 years ago, I was originally prescribed zithromax along with an inhaler (advair) which worked very well within a week/week and a half. two years ago, my doctor at the time prescribed zithromax along with another antibotic (forgot name) and I broke out in hives. This was the first time I had an allegeric reaction to the z pack. I believe the cause of that reaction was the combination of the other anitibotic i was prescribed. Wish I rememered the name. my current doctor would not prescribe the z pack any longer (for cautionary reasons) even though it might not cause the allegeric reaction. I've now been given the levaquin antibotic along with the inhaler. I found it not as effective. Takes longer to heal. Not sure why?

Levaquin is in a completely different class of antibiotic than azithromycin.

Levaquin is generally thought to be more effective against a wider array of bacteria than is azithromycin.

It sounds like you need to have a culture done to identify the bug causing all this so the docs can figure out what the best drug is for you.
