Chronic/Continuous Laryngitis?

It started with the flu more than a month ago. W/in a few days, I became very hoarse due to all the coughing and drainage. I ended up with bronchitis, and was treated for that. The flu symptoms and bronchial infection are gone, but my vocal cords are not recovering. I believe it is b/c my job requires me to talk A LOT!

I am hoarse in the morning; but by the evening, I am barely able to get even a few words out. I am afraid that if I do not rest my voice for several days, I will damage my vocal cords to the point where I may lose the ability to speak at all - permenantly.

Is this a realistic concern? I have never had my voice be so weak. And I really feel pain in my voice box by end of the day, too. So what do you guys think? Thanks so much for your help!!!

You may want to see your physician again with these symptoms.

I have had severe laryngitis (due to bronchitis) that had to be treated with a short course of corticosteroids to reduce the inflammation enough for me to do my job (answering phone, talking to students all day).

Your physician will want to look at your throat and palpate your lymph nodes, so it isn't something you can do over the phone with him/her.
