Will a doctor prescribe albuterol for allergies?

almost a year ago i had really bad asthmatic bronchitis. it was so bad i quit smoking. my doctor prescribed me an albuterol inhaler when i was sick, so that i could clear up and breathe a little. so over the past year i have found that the inhaler works when i get a really bad allergy attack and my chest tightens up and i cant catch my breath. dogs are the worst. so i have had the same inhaler for almost a year now, i only use it when i have to. its almost out, do you think if i tell the doctor, he will give me another prescription for it?

Albuterol is a very versatile drug. It is also reasonably harmless as prescription drugs go. I think your doctor would prescribe you some more Albuterol because you feel it's working for you. It keeps you healthy, out of the ER, and therefore benefits you overall.

What you describe as an 'allergy attack' sounds like an asthma attack. Regardless of the source, it would be asthma. Dogs must be your asthma trigger. Some people with asthma don't have symptoms of it without the presence of a trigger.

albuterol is not really for allergies

A doctor will only give you a prescription for your asthma attack,however if you go to the pharmacy they have other asthmatic inhaler you can buy without a prescription.

Albuterol is a bronchodilater (expands the capillaries in your lungs). It is not a treatment for allergies. It is usually prescribed for asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Your doctor probably prescribed it for your bronchitis to help you breathe. Instead of asking for a refill, tell him what you noticed about what things you are allergic to and he may be able to prescribe something more suitable.

Yes ! If the doc. sees that it is necessary. A lot of people take it for severe allergies( bad enough to cause bronchoconstriction), chronic bronchitis, asthma,emphysema, etc. There are other inhalers on the market(i.e. flonase) that are made that may be better suited for your problems. Tell your doc. what your symptoms are and go from there! Tried any over- the -counter oral remedies? Be very careful with medical advice from people on the web if they dont have any medical background at all!!

Well Chickie could it be your asthma again??? I don't know about albuterol isn't that just for asthma... The Doctor I work for always gives me a Rx. for Clairatin for the allergies... ? i don't know but check it out

Yes. A dr. will prescribe an albuterol inhaler for asthma-induced allergies. If your prescription was not refillable, I would call the dr.'s office and schedule an appt. to see him, so that you can update him on how well its helped your allergies and asthmatic bronchitus.

My brother in law has an albuterol inhaler for his asthma allergies as well. So its very common for people to carry one around who suffer from upper respiratory illnesses or allergies.

I too suffer from asthmatic bronchitus because I was a heavy smoker until last week, ironically enough when I developed a nasty bacterial sinus infection and oral thrush.

My community clinic dr. prescribed an albuterol inhaler for me for the same reasons and it has been a saving grace. I have an appointment with an allergist too in a couple of weeks.

You may want to visit an allergist to verify that you are allergic to dog dander, food, or medicine.
