Been taking Iron supplements for 5 years...?

I was diagnosed with anaemia and prescribed iron suppl. I haven麓t stopped taking them since... and that was 5 years ago! It just became a habit. But for about 2 years now I麓ve been getting these strange spots around my stomach area and severe colds, coughs and bronchitis from time to time and I was wondering if there could be any relation... I麓ve stopped taking these tablets just in case. Have I destroyed my liver? Will it get back to normal? I麓m very worried! Thank you

No, I didn麓t see that Doctor again cause I moved cities. I continued taking them cause I thought they麓d do me good. How stupid of me! Now I realise what a fool I麓ve been!

I think the best thing to do is have your doctor check your hemoglobin levels. I don't see any relationship on severe colds, cough and bronchitis to your prolonged intake of iron supplements.but I am wondering what those strange spots of your stomach area is. Have that checked just in case this will be of any significance.

A better source of iron is leafy green vegetables. Broccoli, spinach, and the like.

I've not eaten meat for over 15 years and have no problems with my iron levels.

I do take a supplement every day, but it's a whole food supplement that is derived from real fruits and vegetables not synthetic vitamins.
