Coughing up frothy white stuff, does that mean pnuemonia? |
My boyfriend has been so sick with a cough and then it turned into bronchitis and now he is coughing up frothy white stuff.. Any doctors out there have any reasons and what he might be able to do to rid the cough and heal faster? Pneumonia sputum will usually have a yellowish color so suspecting pneumonia may be premature. Has he stayed in bed, not left the house? If so, cleaning the environment he is in could help as well. It sounds like asthma, but excess sputum is not something you usually see in straight up asthma. Have him create a clean environment and start to look out for triggers (allergies). Sputum doesn't seem to be the problem here as it is colorless. The frothiness would be worrisome if it was pinkish. It could be mucus which has rotted, and become infected. Check nasal areas. |
