Chest infection, cant get rid of it? |
ive had it for about ten days now i went to the doctor last week he said ive got bronchitis, gice me antbiotics, said it should clear up in a few days, that was last wed,i still cant stop coughing im so fed up feel really weak.and got no appetite,is it normal to take this long to clear up?thanks for answers Bronchitis can take weeks to clear up. However, if you are feeling that the antibiotics are not helping, it is possible that another type of antibiotic is needed. The medical profession likes to use a hunt and peck method of treating different illnesses. My personal belief is that if they would use culture and sensitivites (a test that can determine the best antibiotic to use for an illness) more often, there may be less incidence of superbugs and antibiotic resistant bacteria. But, those tests take time, 48 - 72 hours in most cases, and are costly. yes its normal When the anitbiotics are all gone, be sure to take extra L. acidophilus to boost your immune system. It is natural bacteria found in the intestinal tract and yoghurt. I recently also got a cold that developed into bronchitis. It took about 2 weeks for me to stop coughing completely. The medications I have received in the past that were the best help were an inhaler with a steroid in it to reduce the inflammation, mucinex to thin out the congestion, cough syrup with codeine and an antibiotic. It felt like it took forever to stop coughing and I couldn't get any sleep at night! |
