I was diagnosed with Restrictive lung disease. Im a nonsmoker.?

How common is it to get this after a bad bout of bronchitis? thanks

Livie, in fact I did. I managed a truck stop for about three years...

Restrictive lung disease is much different than obstructive lung disease. If you had bronchitis or were a smoker or were around smokers than I would normally expect you to have obstructive lung disease as a result of irritated airways constantly spasming and the lungs having frequent to continuous fluid build up in them.
With restrictive lung disease it gets a bit more complicated that that. The disease is actually in the interstitial space or the area between the airsacs, the blood vessels, and the interconnective tissue the holds the lungs together. Some how the interconnective tissue loses its elasticity or stretching ability and the lungs stiffen up. This makes it harder to take a breath in and of course generally harder to breathe. Unfortunately, in some cases the cell walls of the airsacs also thicken and it takes longer for the oxygen to get across the barrier of the cell wall into the blood stream which reduces the level of oxygen in the blood as a whole. This can usually only be corrected by use of supplemental oxygen. I strongly urge you to make an appointment with a doctor that specializes in pulmonary medicine. Then write down all of your questions on a piece of paper and take it with when you go to the appointment. Don't leave the MD's office until you are satisfied that you have had all of your questions answered. Good luck.

ok well ya know if u stood around people who smoked that could be it.
