Bronchitis and a sinus infection?

Okay, so I started feeling lousy on Saturday, and by Monday I was obviously ill. By Wednesday, my faily forced me to go to the doctor, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis. I have been taking my meds for two days now, but the thing is I feel worse. I go into these coughing fits that are so bad I feel like I will throw up and sometimes I even pee on myself (even after I have gone to the bathroom). I know that is gross.

My docotr BARELY looked at me the other day, I think she was backed up or something. And right now I am not the position to keep missing work, keep going to the doctor and keep paying for meds.

Does anyone know of a way to relieve the symptoms of bronchitis, until maybe the meds kick in real good?

I am currently takinh Avelox (antibiotic) and Dytan. I am allergic to all the good stuff like codiene, z-pack and penicillian.

Sounds like you need different meds. Having suffered from both at the same time, I would recommend:

Delysium and an expectorant for the cough (delysium is expensive but works for 12 hours, and the expectorant like Mucinex will help you get that phlegm out of your lungs).

Try 12 hour sudafed for the sinuses, and Aleve for the pain/fever/discomfort.

All those meds (Delysium, Mucinex, 12 hour Sudafed and Aleve) all last for 12 hours, which will also help you get some rest.

But seriously, you need to go back to the doctor and they need to switch your antibiotic to something else. Like a broad spectrim one such as bactrim or augmentin. Those usually do it for me.

Meanwhile, drink lots of fluids, like hot water with honey and lemon or throat soothers tea or something like that. Run a humidifier, take hot showers and breathe in the steam, and rest, rest, rest!!

Hope this helps!! Feel better soon!

you should consult your doctor and ask him why the meds are still not taking effect.

you should go to cold places, drink antihistamines and take a rest

Sorry hun. I had the same thing. I waited so long to goto the doctor that I was on antibiotics for 11 days or somthing like that. It took a while for it to go away. My mom came down with the same thing (odd) and she recovered in 3 days. But my mom had to go back to the doc because they had to check her again because she ended up developing asthma for a short period of time. Something else was wrong with her. So... it does take a while to go away and but if you aren't getting better go back....
and for your coughing. It sounds like you need cough syrup with codine in it. It will stop that right away. If you're already on cough syrup with the drugs in it, you should be taking it and it should make you sleep... if it isn't working go back to the doc.

Since you said you were diagnosed w/ bronchitis, the coughing fits may be caused by the narrowing of your bronchioles. (similar to someone who has asthma).

When you cough, it is in response to something getting caught in your airway. Coughing is your bodies' response to getting that obstruction out. With bronchitis, your airway is narrowed by the disease. Your body then thinks that something is stuck in your airway and in turn will try to cough it out, but we already know nothing is there. So you will continue to cough until that airway is back to its normal size.

The only way at this point to get that airway back to its normal size is thru an inhaler. I am not sure if the doctor already prescribed a bronchodilator for you. If they did use it. If not, you will need it and should go back to see your doctor. Hope this helped.
