Could I have chronic bronchitis? |
Third day of coughing, chest pain/burning and onset of fever. This is my third time getting bronchitis in about 4-5 months, I'm 23 and have smoked cigarettes for a little over a year. (I have decided as of yesterday to quit smoking. Yes, I know I shouldn't be smoking. My mom died of lung cancer last year a the age of 47 and my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with emphysema this year.) I feel like crap and am tired of getting sick and am wondering if anyone thinks I may have chronic bronchitis. (Side note, I am already on an antibiodic Keflex for an unrelated infection. Why would I get bronchitis while I am on this drug since it is supposed to help clear it up?) Yes it sounds like you have chronic bronchitis. If not you are well on your way there. It's good that you are stopping smoking, it will help. I'm thinking that your original bout of bronchitis is just flaring back up. Keflex may not be the right antibiotic for bronchitis. Normally, I'm prescribed Zithromax Zpaks when I get it. Actually yes. My cousin has exactly the same symptoms. She gets it every so often. technically no. you could have bronchitis but not chronic bronchitis. for it to be considered chronic you would have to have it in 2 consecutive years. you are very smart to have stopped smoking. That is the best thing you can do when you have respiratory problems. You probably do have bronchitis, and seeing that your mother had and your grandmother have respiratory problems that is good cause for you to have them. Get a diagnosis from a good doctor. you probably just have irritation in your bronchial tubes, you need inhaled steroids until irritation is gone, anti-biotics will help prevent associated infections,if not inhaled steroids then a steroid dose pak would be beneficial with a Z-pak to nip this at the bud! if in a week you see no results it may be allergies, then go to an allergy and asthma specialist, they have more advice on these situations than family physicians! yes you can, i had it from the time i was 6 mos old to around 16 yrs old, every fall to spring, and they finaly said recently that i proberly had asthma too, you made need another antiobiotic |
