Acute bronchitis?

i went to the er about a week ago and he said i had acute bronchitis after i told him i couldnt breath that well, was coughing nasty stuff up and my back hurt.. well now its gotten worse, its really hard to breath, i've lost my appetite, my heart seems to be beating faster then usual and this cough i have is driving me crazy... is that part of bronchitis? i've never had it before.

they gave me an inhaler that is being discontinued due to enviromental impact it says..i dont want to use it now... i also had a staph infection, impetigo and cellulitus so i got an antibiotic it says this on the bottle:SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 TAB...i have NO idea what it is.

Yes, what you're experiencing can be part of acute bronchitis. You haven't mentioned a prescription. Didn't the ER doc prescribe for you? If not, contact your own physician. You can recover from bronchitis without antibiotics - sometimes it's better to, in the long run - but your doctor can prescribe a mucolytic to break up the sputum. And you can use an expectorant to help you continue to bring up more sputum. You don't want to suppress the cough yet. A steamy shower and a cool mist humidifier can help as well. Once you clear up your bronchi a bit, you'll find it easier to breathe. Now you can use a cough suppressant. Your intercostal (rib) muscles will get a break and the soreness will go away. Your appetite will return and your heart rate will drop.

Bronchitis can be either viral or bacterial.

With any viral syndrome, which can cause bronchitis, you are expected to feel miserable not just in on spot. Muscle aches all over and nausea and lack of appitite are very common. The heart beating this may be related to the inhaler they must have given you. I would call you primary docs office and talk to the nurse there and she can ask you a bunch of questions to see if its worth it for you to be evaluated again.

When to seek medical advice for Bronchitis
Most cases of bronchitis clear on their own in a few days, especially if you rest, drink plenty of fluids, and keep the air in your home warm and moist. If your cough is severe or is preventing you from sleeping, call your doctor. He or she may recommend prescription cough suppressants to help you get some rest.

If you have a low-grade fever that lasts more than three days or a fever higher than 101 F, you're breathless, or you cough up bloody or yellow or green mucus, see your doctor. You may have pneumonia. And if you have a cough that lasts six weeks or more, be sure to seek medical care. The inflammation from a chronic infection can lead to asthma in some people.

Also see your doctor if you have chronic lung or heart problems, including asthma, emphysema or congestive heart failure, and think you may have developed a case of bronchitis. These conditions put you at greater risk of developing complications from bronchial infections.

Also you may temporally need an albuterol inhaler just so you don't have to cough so hard.
