I have just been diagosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia.?

I have just been diagosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia. I also just had a baby 3 weeks ago. What are the chances that she that or a similar bleeding disorder?

I have not been exposed to any radiation. It actually came from a previous diagnosis, or perhaps a mis diagnosis (?) of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC) a blood disorder that has some of the same symptoms and the potential to go into a form of leukemia if it is not treated or incorrectly treated.

CML is NOT hereditary; it is an acquired problem. Historically it was difficult to control long-term, as it transformed into acute leukemia (blast crisis). Currently, a new class of drugs (tyrosine kinase inhibitors) have transformed the treatment; most patients are placed into a molecular remission by one of these drugs, meaning that to the best of our ability we cannot detect evidence for the disease. Does it mean cure? Not sure yet, but maybe for some, or at least control of the disease for a long time(? for life, like high blood pressure- it is not cured, it is controlled).

Acai berries have shown no such benefit as quoted above. They may taste good (or maybe not), but please don't put your faith in only that.

DIC did not lead to or cause this; it is possible DIC could be caused by CML or its complications however. Given the way these drugs have transformed the care of CML patients, it is a time to be optimistic about future treatment and expectations.

God bless, best wishes

God makes the impossible, possible. "If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, turn from their wicked way, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land (heal you) I sorry to hear this, I feel for you,
However, do not let anything stress you out. Believe me, I was healed, all by prayer
I am praying for you and yous

I dont think it is genetic. It is a rare disease and sometimes the treatment is bone marrow transplant. You may have been, somewhat blessed by having a child right now as this baby might be your marrow match if you need one.
In your question you didnt say what might have caused this type of leukemia. Have you had high dose radiation that might have brought this on?
I wish you the very best. Please do more research on this and listen to your Dr.s advice.

first of all, i'm sorry to hear what you are going through.

www.cancer.org is a great source of the most up to date cancer information, as well as support/resources available. they are also avail 24/7 by calling 1.800.ACS.2345.

here is what i pulled about risk factors. I'd say your baby will be healthy and happy...

Detailed Guide: Leukemia - Chronic Myeloid (CML)
What Are the Risk Factors for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML)?

A risk factor is something that affects a person's chance of getting a disease such as cancer. For example, exposing skin to strong sunlight is a risk factor for skin cancer. Smoking is a risk factor for a number of cancers. But risk factors are rarely absolute. Having a risk factor, or even several risk factors, does not mean that you will get the disease. And many people who get the disease may not have had any known risk factors.
There are very few known risk factors for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

High-dose Radiation Exposure

Being exposed to high-dose radiation (such as being a survivor of an atomic bomb blast or nuclear reactor accident) is the only known environmental risk factor for chronic myeloid leukemia.

Gender

CML is slightly more common in males than females, although the reasons for this are not known.

There are no other proven risk factors for CML. The risk of getting CML does not seem to be affected by smoking, diet, or exposure to chemicals or infections. Nor does CML run in families.

well wishes for you.

I can tell you this that the acai berry destroyed up to 86% of leukemia cells in a University of Florida study. Check out www.myspace.com/54321q it will explain alot.

You never know what will happen you just have to hope that there is nothing in that babies system also talk to your doctor find out what the chances are!!
