Delaying my period using birth control?

If, after my period ends, i start taking my pills 3 or 4 days later than i am supposed to will i delay my period 3 or 4 days? I'm on ortho tricyclen low (sp) and have been taking BC for over a year. I will not be having sex during the three or for days that im not taking the pills, but later in the month it is a possibility. If i take the pills later, will i get my period later and still be protected when i start taking them again?

Sounds to risky to me. Just take back to back packs. Don't take the sugar pills just start a new pack. That will delay your period.

As long as you have a back-up method of BC then it'll be fine if your pills are the same...I do it if I want to change the days for my period, but my pills are all the same, if yours are different strengths depending on the week, I'd just go onto the next pack and skip your period instead as that's definitely OK, I did that for years until it disappeared on it's own. You might get some breakthrough bleeding if your period is generally heavy, but that's all, and that will be safer as far as birth control is concerned.
I cannot say for sure if you'll be safe on the next month if you take part of the pack early, but your period will come again at the next time you take the sugar pills. Skipping it altogether for the month-your period, not sex-by starting another pack is best probably.
