Avian Flu question?

In the recent article on yahoo news about Bird flu, there was a sentence that I didn't understand. "The study estimates that 96 percent of the deaths would occur in the developing world." What isssssssssssssss, the "developing world"? On a personal opinion, I don't believe that Avian flu will become a pandemic.

The writer was saying that 96 percent of deaths would occur in the developing world because their medical care isn鈥檛 as advanced as the 鈥渇irst world鈥檚.鈥?br>
But if a pandemic develops, there will be so many flu patients that our medical care will not be any better than the medical care in the 鈥渄eveloping world.鈥?br>
It鈥檚 not hype - just fact.

We do not have vaccine for pandemic flu.

They can only make vaccine when we have the actual virus that is causing the pandemic 鈥?right now it is still mutating. Once the pandemic begins - it will take at least 6-9 months to produce vaccine and there will be only small amounts at first 鈥?for healthcare workers, first responders, police officers, electricity workers, etc.

We have very limited amounts of anti-viral medications, and we don鈥檛 know if they will work against the virus.

Healthcare workers will get sick so there will be fewer and fewer of them to take care of everyone else.

It will be very bad.

avian flu is a serious epidemic, if there were no ways to combat this we'd be in serious trouble.
Luckily this guide here has information on how to combat it and is quite cheap.

developing world is like third world countries. The ones that are too poor for vaccines

Countries that are "not yet developed" as opposed to "Developed countries" such as the US. They used to be called "underdevleoped" but I guess "developing" sounds much more positive.
