How is a T-tube removed?

Specifically, a t-tube placed at the site of a bile duct injury from surgery. Will it hurt or bleed? My doctor doesn't seem to explain much to me for some reason.

The suture (stitch) will be removed from holding the t-tube in place. Then slowly the tube will be removed. You will feel some discomfort but you can have some pain relief before hand. A tiny hole will be left and a dressing will be applied. Some oozing may occur but this will be normal. Make sure you get them to explain everything to you before they take it out!!

I would change it everyday or if it ooze's during the day then change it, just make sure it stays clean.

Good Luck

Matt Report It

They will snip a few stitches and then just pull it out. It will most likely ooze. they will cover it with a dressing. Shouldn't hurt, just feel kinda weird.

A T-Tube is removed easily and relitively painlessly. The doctor simply snips the anchoring suture and gives it a tug. It is made of an elastic rubber materiel and will flex and bend with no problem. You may feel a moment of pressure as the doctor pulls simply because it is different that what you acre currently feeling, but in a second or two the tube will be out and there will be no after effect.

My thoughts are with you.

my mum had one of these a few months back after having Whipple's procedure it was removed as a day case on the hospital ward i think she did not tell me it was pain full
good luck
