Can Removing a breast lump be worst?

Why do some people choose to have a biopsy first? Can't a benign tumor turn into a malignant tumor? What hazards are there in removing breast lumbs surgically?

Yes it can, it happened to my mother and she had to end up getting it removed. There are no hazards in removing breast lumps, just physical and vain consequences like appearance.

A biopsy is the only way to be certain whether a lump is malignant or not.

Breast lumps don't typically turn from benign into malignant, and certainly not because of a biopsy.

If it isn't malignant, the person can stop worrying, or can still elect surgical removal. If the lump is malignant, the person can begin treatment. It starts, for real, with the biopsy.

Surgical removal carries the same risks as any surgery: infection, reaction to anesthesia, those are the biggies.

Well, you need a biopsy to determine if the lump is malignant or benign. I am no doctor, but I always thought most benign tumors stayed that way and did not turn malignant. I thought malignant tumors are that way from the beginning. Like I said, don't take this as medical advice.

As far as removal of a lump, I had it done (cancerous) and it was not bad at all. I had more pain from the lymph node removal. I don't think anyone should be scared of it if you need to have it done. Yes, there's a scar, but so what? Who shows boobs off to the world? I was out of work a week and felt very little post-surgical pain, other than soreness when I moved the arm. It was not as bad as I expected it to be. Like I said, if you need to have it done, the pain management today is great and you will be glad to have the tumor gone! Good luck.
