Intense PAIN in my finger! What can it be?

for over 10 years i have had pain in my pinky finger.

-the pain comes and goes

-it's sensitive to cold.

-the pain is usual localized in the top of the pinky finger to the joint.

-pain can sometimes radiate down to the bottom of my palm

-( i'm 23, & female )

about 5 years ago a regular dr looked at it from the outside and said that he thought it may be a benign tumor.

sometimes the pain gets so terrible, i am on the floor holding my finger in bitter tears. (& i am not too sensitive to pain - i recently gave birth naturally to an 8 pound baby so the fact i am in tears means it hurts so very much)

lately the pain has been coming on more frequently, and much more painful.

what are some possibilities that this could be?

should i be concerned?

is it serious?

it never really looks swollen to me.

I have had a similar problem except the pain radiates up my entire arm like in a nerve. It's in my ring finger, and it hurts EXTREMELY bad, and the cold makes it so much worse.

I went to an orthopaedist two years ago who was sure it was a glomus tumor (benign). To be sure he did an MRI, and it came back negative.

For two years I have been dealing with this, and I am on my fourth specialist. He did another MRI today to see if anything developed.

Try this test: Put your finger in ice cold water for 60 seconds, then put it under warm water. If the cold water doesn't hurt it, the warm water will if it's a glomus tumor. Contact your doctor to see what his or her opinion is. They will probably refer you to an orthopaedic specialist who will examine your pinky.

Hopefully it's something they can fix. If nothing shows up on my recent MRI, I was told I'd have to just learn to live with the pain. I guess that means moving to a really warm place where winter doesn't get cold!

It could be something called gout. Swelling of the joints it comes and goes. Ask your doctor about it
