Knee Problem just want some suggestions?

I'll try to shorten this up. I got up from a sitting position and felt something rip. Went to doctor and he said I have housewives knee. Then had to be on crutches for a week and the pain went away for a few months. Then I went again and they took a x-ray and found a fibrous cortical defect (benign tumor). The doctor sent me to a knee doc and then he looked at it and said they sent you here for that. Then another brace wearing for a few weeks. Getting down to the question almost. It hurts when the weather changes as well and I have felt on both sides of each knee. Should it be growing? My side of my hurt knee feels larger then my good one like something is growing on the bone and around it. Just wondering for some opinions any help would be grateful. Thanks

Thanks for all the answers. How the doc found out it was benign I don't know really. I have tried the excerises and there is one like you put and ball in between the knees and squeeze but its painful to do. I want to help my knees gain strength again. any ideas? I have tried jogging /running but it gets real tight afterwards. Thanks again for the answers really helped.

as a physical therapist,i recommend u to have hotpacks for 15-20 mins on the affected area for pain relief..secondly do some joint mobilization exercise x 10 reps x 2 sets .And lastly you should use a single tip cane on the unaffected knee for the reason to reduce weight on the affected area..

put ice on it that is would i would do

You MUST get a second opinion! If your in pain I would suggest having a doctor prescribe you something for the pain or go to a chiropractor and get this stuff called BioFreeze. You can get it in either a lotion or roll-on liquid. It works wonders! But I seriously suggest seeing a different doctor. This is your life and it is important.

sounds like it might be arthritic or rheumatic (wearing of the cartilage due to your torm ligament) Go get a 2nd opinion !!!

Sounds like you need a 2nd opinion from another physician. You might want to consider visiting a doctor who specializes in sports medicine. They may decide to do an MRI which gives significantly more information than an x-ray. The difference in size between your 2 knees could be swelling, or it could be the tumor. I don't understand, however, how a doctor can call a tumor benign without doing a biopsy so I'd question that. Whatever you do, keep asking questions. You have a right to straight forward answers in lay man terms. Make a pest of yourself if you have to, but find out what's the deal with your knee. I have knee problems myself, but there's nothing I can do for it but try and strengthen the muscles surrounding my knee for support. So I do weight-bearing excercise, but I've come to the understanding that it will never be 100%. Good luck.

You should ice it and elevate it above your chest *(lay down and stack pillows under your knee) for 20 minutes at a time. do this atleast once a day. also, don't run or do anything that excessively uess your knee. if you can avoid stairs, then avoid stairs. do not squat or kneel. Keep with the brace if you need it. possibly ask your doctor about physical therapy.

Try an exercise to build up your quadriceps. Stronger quads = less stress on the knees
