What causes Bells Palsy and what can you do to get rid of it? |
What causes Bells Palsy and what can you do to get rid of it? People tend to confuse Bells Palsy and Facial Nerve Palsy. They are different in that Bells Palsy is usually of an unknown cause. Facial nerve palsy can be tracked to a compressed nerve, trauma, pathology, etc. In order to get the nerve back to the point of recovery, you must first remedy the underlying problem. Decompress a compressed nerve, fight the virus attacking the nerve, remove the mass pressing against the nerve, etc. Then, you must allow the nerve to regenerate. This can take days, months, and even years. In some cases, there may not be recovery at all. But feel comfortable in knowing that this is very unlikely. The biggest problem that faces a healing seventh cranial nerve, is synokinesis. This is when the brain reprograms itself to recognize the regenerated nerve, but does so improperly. For example, when you yawn, your eye will close, etc. To avoid this, do not try to overuse the nerve, or force it into exercising, particularly in the early stages. Let it rest, let it regenerate and heal. Then eat a healthy diet, and take Methylcobalamin. Your Dr. should also prescribe a strong course of steroids early on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bells_palsy WHAT IS BELL'S PALSY? Type in "Bell's Palsy treatment" on Yahoo Search.
