Healthy 28 y/o guy... weak bladder?

I wake up and have to go to the bathroom during the night most nights, but occasionally (like once or twice a month on average) I don't wake up in time, and wet the bed. A lot of the time I even wake up just as I'm starting to pee, or in the middle of it, and can't stop.

I've tried all the usual advice -- not drinking at night, using the bathroom before bed, etc. -- but usually still have to urinate during the night regardless. Even then, I almost always wake up in time, but seem to have this problem most often when I'm really tired or stressed out. I did have a nightly bedwetting problem until I was about 12, and it's obviously not that bad now, but it just never totally went away.

Anybody else experienced this, or have any ideas on what to do about it? I've been to the doctor and nothing is seriously wrong... I know there are meds available, but I have a hard time shelling out for a med to take every single night for a problem that only happens a few times a month at most.

wow... holding out for 8-10 hours sounds PAINFUL... or at least out of my league! i've tried stretching my bladder a little bit, but if i hold it for more than an hour or two after i first need to go it gets REALLY painful and uncomfortable... so that it's impossible to think straight or do anything else. is it healthy to hold it that long? i'm kinda nervous about that... a small bladder is at least better than a ruptured bladder...

Try doing Kegel excercises. It strengthens the pelvic wall musceles, that may help you.

this will help you to know how to do them:

I really hope it gets better for you. Good luck!

You're very welcome! Report It

Let me know what you find out....have same problem.

The Blatter is a muscle. You are going to have to practice during the day and develop the muscle. Hold it as long as you can even if it hurts. Only go to the bathroom if you can't hold it any longer. Once your able to hold out 8 to 10 hours your muscle should be developed enough to hold out all night

well,if u have a few beers or water the kidneys deal & dissipate the excess fluid consistancy.did the tin man in oz have a kidney prob NO!

Find another Dr. this isn't normal for someone your age.
