Annoying habit?

ok well, im a 14 year old in 7th grade, i have a brother who just turned thirteen also, he has a habit of bedwetting, and every morning i(scince we share a room)i smell his urine and it annoyes me, i told him to go to bed beforehand, but he still does it!does anyone know a way he can stop?

Believe me, he's MUCH more annoyed that this is still happening than you are. A lot of kids around that age still wet their beds, many more than you would think! Most likely it's simply that his bladder hasn't grown quickly enough to keep up with the rest of his body. This happens to a lot of kids, and yelling at him won't help... and making him drink less at night or go to the bathroom before bed may not stop it either. His body will still produce a certain amount of urine during the night, and until his bladder is mature enough to hold it all in (at least long enough for the signal to get to his brain to wake him up!) he'll wet the bed.

If you really want to help him stop, there are things you can do... the first step would be to have your parents take him to the doctor (if they haven't already) to make sure there isn't any serious medical problem going on. There are alarm systems that are designed to set a buzzer off as soon as he starts urinating in his sleep, which over time can help his brain learn to recognize his bladder being too full and wake up on his own before he starts to wet. This will take time for him to learn, though, and while he's learning, the alarm will wake you up too! I guess it depends how much it's worth it to you for him to stop, but I'm sure if you can help him stop, he'll be very happy about it. Have him (and your parents) check out http://www.bedwettingstore.com to find an alarm system he could use.

Also, DON'T make fun of him or yell at him or do anything to cause him more stress about this. For one thing, he can't help it, and for another thing, making him more stressed out will just make the muscles in his bladder tighten up even more, which will make the bedwetting even worse. He will probably outgrow it on his own eventually, but it may take some time.

yelling at him isnt a solution, some kids just have the problem, he'll grow out of it. first of all, he needs your support, youre his brother.

I'd bet he has a food allergy. He should see a pediatrician. Bed wetting is a common symtom of food allergies in children (lets face it, he's not an adult at 13) and he shouldnt have to face that embarassment. Its not like he wants to, his body cant help it. Like sneezing when you have a cold bug.
Have him tested, and then he can avoid the food that is causing the problem.

His bladder has not caught up with his body in growth. will usually straighten out in time. Meantime buy Goodnites pullups in xl sixe. They are for bedwetting!

It might help if he goes to the bathroom just before he goes to bed. And, not to drink anything for a couple of hours before going to be. It might help the situation if he wears an adult type depends or attends while he is sleeping. It will help the odor and keep the bed from getting wet. He needs some kind of medical help to try to stop this. He may just out grow it.
