9 year old and bedwetting!!? |
My son is 9 years old and still wets the bed. I have taken him to a specialist, and was told that his bladder is just maturing slowly. The problem is, is that is embarreses him really bad. He will not stay at his friends houses or let his friends come over because he has to wear Goodnights pullups. He was on a medication called DDAVP for about three years and it worked really well, but his body became immune to it. Does anyone have any tips on how to make him feel better about his problem? I have told him many times that it isn't his fault, and we cut off all drinking at 6 pm and he goes to be at 8:30 pm. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My now 18 year old son and 12 year old daughter had this problem. My son attempted different medications and none helped. He finally stopped at 14 and my daughter stopped in the past few months. We did all the limiting fluid, bed alarms, getting him up Thru the night. None of it worked. Finally put a plastic mattress cover on his bed and started buying good-nights. This worked well, he would just pack it with his clothes and change in the bathroom, and he didn't have any problems and his friends didn't know. It got to be something that wasn't even brought up unless I needed to get a new pack at the store. Don't make a big deal about it, and it won't be. Times have changed. My reward for being a bedwetter was a plastic mattress cover with no sheets. I had the same problem with my son. He took the same prescribed medicine and also wore pullups. I also took him to a specialist. I really couldn't say anything to him that would make him feel better. It was practically a daily struggle. The subject was taboo with him. Luckily, he had a big growth spurt last year and he is now 16 years old. Even now occasionally, he still has accidents. Maybe if you let your son know that he's not alone with this problem, and that would make him feel alittle bit better. |
