What causes Adult bedwetting ?

I would like some help in finding out what causes this ?

This problem started when I was in the 7th grade ! I used to hold my urine in class ! We could only use the restroom during the changing of classes. I kept my urine so long that i developed a liking for it , It stimulated my clitoris and I got so used to it I kept holding my urine. I even do it when I am sleeping. Till now i am doing it in my sleep still at 21yrs old. I tried to stop but, I still wet the bed. How can I stop this. I need help. I don't wet the bed every day. There are periods when I wet it every other day or 3 days straight.

I used to wet often and would awaken in a fully wet soggy bed. Sometimes our bladders develop at different rates and take a while to fully mature before we stay dry during the night. I think that was partly my problem. It is a problem common to both women and men. But the majority of my bed wetting was caused by me sleeping so deeply that I was unable to control the muscle that would normally prevent the passing of urine during the night. I had a great deal of emotional and mental stress too. There are other scary problems like the ones listed below but I would look at how the person sleeps first. I would get some generic adult disposable diapers and have the person use them until they work through the problem. I've used them and though they are a bit warm they are a blessing. If you wet you feel dry in them and will sleep through the night. They are fairly inexpensive and you can find them at grocery stores, drugstore and even walmart. Not having to worry about wetting the bed might help them relax when they go to sleep. If they don't wet the diaper they can untape them and reuse them the next night. They should start by sleeping regular hours. Often I need 10 hours of sleep per night. Make sure they get to bed at an early hour so they don't get over tired. If they do they are more likely to go in a very deep sleep and wet. For five days have them go to bed early enough to allow themselves 10 hours of sleeping time. You will find out if they need 8 hours, or if they awaken after 9 or 10 hours. Then from then on they should allow themselves the amount of sleep their body requires. Be aware of the causes below and check with the doctor if you think they might have one of them. Also give them a chance to see if proper sleep stops the accidents if you think it is sleep related. Medication to control wetting might be needed at some point. But for now sleep is the key.

If you have the problem try to strengthen the bladder by forcing yourself to hold back your urine for a few minutes when you feel the need to urinate. Only do that when you are at home or at work if you are free to get up and use the toilet at any time. Before bed go tinkle and empty your bladder an hour before bedtime then go tinkle right before you climb in bed.

The problem can be caused for scary things like Diabetes, Urinary tract infection, Urinary tract stones, Prostate enlargement. Bladder cancer, Obstructive sleep apnea, Neurological disorders

insecurity and sometimes a urinary disorder

drunkeness? carelessness?
Seriously, see your doctor, they have a pill for that.

Bedwetting causes include urinary tract infections, metabolic disorders (e.g. various types of diabetes), external pressure on the bladder (e.g. extreme constipation by a large rectal stool mass), as well as neurologic disorders of the spinal cord.

Rarely, acute anxiety disorders or other emotional disorders are also adult bedwetting causes

Bedwetting can have many causes, including a smaller than average bladder that can't hold enough urine for a long enough time, abnormally deep sleep patterns, all the way to serious medical problems like diabetes or kidney disease. The only way to know for sure is to talk to your doctor; however, from your explanation, it sounds like your "habit" of holding your urine during the day could very easily be a cause. Holding your urine for very long periods of time increases the risk of bladder infections (which can also contribute to causing bedwetting!), and it can de-sensitize your bladder muscles so that you simply don't feel the need to go until you're almost at the bursting point. During the day this is fine as long as there's a toilet available, but it takes your body 15-20 minutes to wake up from deep sleep after it notices your bladder is full... and so if your body doesn't "notice" until you're at the breaking point, there's a good chance your bladder can't wait that long and the result will be a wet bed.

I won't repeat my advice from your other question, but in short, if you can find a way to change the "habit" of holding it so long during the day, you can probably fix the problem. It might still happen once in awhile at odd times, especially when you are really tired or stressed -- stress can make this problem MUCH more likely to happen, if your body is prone to it -- but please don't let it get you down too much! It actually happens to a LOT more people than you might think, and there are a lot of kind, understanding people out there who will accept you just as you are, in spite of any medical problems you may have.
