Young adult, never totally outgrew bedwetting... bladder problem, sleep problem, or something else?

I'm in my mid-late 20s and otherwise healthy (have tested negative for infections, diabetes, kidney problems, prostate problems, etc.) I've had the problem basically my whole life... I did it pretty much every night until I was 12, and it's gone up and down since then; now it's maybe 5 or 6 times a year on average, although it can be worse if I'm under a lot of stress.

Is it possible that my bladder just never completely "outgrew" the problem like the docs always said it would? (When I was a kid I was always told it was too small for my age...) Or is the problem that I sleep too soundly so that I don't wake up when I need to go? Actually I do wake up to go to the bathroom most nights, and it's only on the rare nights when I'm really tired or stressed that I sleep through it and wake up wet.

Yes, I do watch my liquid intake at night and follow all other such common recommemdations... just looking for ideas on what the problem is... anyone have experience or insights on this?

I have a cousin who is 19 and has had this problem since he was a child. My son is a teen and also has the same problem. My son is also a very sound sleeper and this could be a reason. I have heard everything from he will grow out of it, his body hasn't caught up, watch your fluids, and cut down on the sugar. I believe that all of these remedies are given because there is not sure way of curing it. Sorry, but all I know is to deal. Anyone who cares about you shouldn't have a problem and should be supportive.

I saw a commercial for bladder control medicine. Maybe you should ask you doctor about that.

I wake up to go the bathroom at night, fortunately for me i never sleep through it, so I never wet my bed. Sorry I couldn't be of much else help.

Ask your doctor about DDAVP

You just never quite taught yourself to wake up when your bladder is full. Hypnosis can help with this. It will get you to wake up when you have to go to the bathroom instead of sleeping thru it. Before you go to bed each night tell yourself over and over "I will wake up when I have to pee"! A professional hyponotist can help you further.
