Bedsores??

my bedridden grandmother has diarea her bottom looks like a big blister but it is not an open sore is there a good way to heal this rather quickly?any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

she saw the dr today he said he was sending someone out for the sore that is on her bone but this is between her cheeks

this sounds like a stage 2 bedsore....

you need to make sure to turn your grandma every two hours to prevent more breakdown of the sore area and to prevent her from getting new sores....

get at least 4 pillows. one for under her head, turn her to either her left or right side and place two pillows underneath her back so that she is lying on her side (she will lean back onto the pillows slightly-this is ok). place the last pillow lengthwise in between her knees to prevent them from rubbing together (pressure sores develop when bony areas of the body-such as kneecaps are rubbed together for long periods of time). turn her to the opposite side two hours later-continue doing this....

to treat the bedsore itself-make sure to wash it well with a homemade saline solution:
2 tsp salt in 1 quart of water

do not use any soaps-these will irritate the wound. after washing it w/the saline-dab it dry with a soft, clean washcloth. then apply a homemade solution that is similar to desitin..

mix cornstarch with milk of magnesium or mylanta to make a paste. apply this directly to the wound and cover with a gauze pad and medical tape-you can find all of these items at any local drugstore..

clean the wound at least 3-4 times per day and allow it to air for 30 minutes before reapplying the paste and gauze.

if your grandmother is able to swallow pills-give her ibuprofen 200-400mg every 6 hours for pain and swelling but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours. do not give her this if she is already taken prescribed daily medication for pain...

if she is not able to swallow the pills-mash them up into a fine powder and mix into soft foods such as ice cream, applesauce,or pudding-this will help her to injest them better...

keep a close eye on the bedsore to make sure it's not getting any worse-if it looks like it is worsening-make an appt asap to get your grandma into the doc-she might need antibiotics to treat the wound...

best thing to help heal this is to make sure to turn your grandmother EVERY 2 HOURS and prop her up on those pillows like i instructed....

good luck and i respect you for taking care of your grandmother-that is not an easy job...

she needs an air mattress aw im so sorry love her i lost mine a few yrs ago bless all of u

The best treatment is air circulation.

Moving her around as often as possible is the best.

They sell pillows to help support the person so they can lay on each side and back

get a doctor as soon as posssiable!!!!!! that is seroius call now if you dont you could be charged with neglect call now

You need to get her medical help. Negligence of your part could cost you a fine or jail time if something worse happens to her.

hi i'm a nurse, you should call a doctor to prescribe medication to prevent bed sores, however in the meantime if your grandma is bedridden you should not allow her to just lie in her bed in one position for a very long time, it would be best to move her in different positions to allow good circulation of blood. Bedsores usually happen if there is not enough blood circulating in that area. It would be good also to massage her back and buttocks, this also allows good circulation.

Okay... the thing with bedsores is that they suck. They suck so bad. I don't know if you already knew this or have already been doing it but you have to constantly turn bedridden people on their sides. Or any other position. Cuz it they stay on there back for to long...eventually....there will be no butt. Or there will be one but it will have a nasty looking hole on the outside. I really don't know any ways to heal this but i wouldn't lay her on her back as much.

P.S. You also might want to call a doctor.
