How to move and position bedridden patient to prevent bedsores, illustations helpful.? Turn them at least every 2 hours. Use padding on any boney prominance. Keep the skin clean and dry. The most common places are the lower back, heels, hips, back of head. Keep the person well nurished and well hydrated. Every half an hour or so the patient must be rolled from side to back and then next time from back to other side so that they are not in one position for too long. Make sure that all clothing is straight and that they are not lying on any creases (clothing or bed linen). If any red patches occur this signifies that pressure has been applied there. Wet your hands and cover with soap, then massage the red area with the soap. This encourages the blood to circulate in this area properly and therefore helps to prevent bed sores. I used to work in a nursing home for the elderly and we used this technique daily. |
