Has any one delt successfully with bedsores, and how? Bed sores can be prevented by inspecting the skin for areas of redness (the first sign of skin breakdown). Other methods of preventing bed sores and preventing progression of existing bed sores include the following: frequent turning and repositioning, providing soft padding in wheelchairs and beds to reduce pressure and providing good skin care by keeping the skin clean and dry Mylanta and a blow dryer. No kidding. If it isn't a real deep one, a few times a day use a Q tip to put a good amount on the sore and then with the dryer on lowest setting and away from skin, use a sweeping motion to dry the mylanta. Takes a few minutes. Don't wash it off, it will rub off. I learned this trick in the nursing home and it works! It healed them much faster. Of course we all know how to prevent them but sometimes it is hard with even the best care. Watch out for wrinkled material under the person. Keep off the sore as much as possible |
