Wat is Barrett's Esophagus? . Is it cancerous? |
I understand that Barrett'sEsophagus is the result of GERD, where the lining of the esophsgus becomes inflamed, but I can't find anything about it on computer. Barett's esophagitis is when the lining of the exophagus had been destroyed by the stomach acid that has refluxed into it. THis damage over time casues errosions and precancerous lesions. THese lesions can turn into cancer but not if they are treated before that. Barrett's esophagus is not neccessarily cancer but if untreated eventually will be... I just Googled it and got a ton of sites. try again. Barret's Oesophagus is a condition caused by prolonged exposure to stomach acid in the gullet. It is not cancerous, but is what's known as pre-cancerous. If you've got it you must have a regular gastroscopy. htchrist is right, it is a precancerous state. If left untreated it can turn into cancer. An endoscopy performed by a gastroenterologist will determine if you have Barrett's Syndrome. |
