Diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus....What now?

My 17-year-old Daughter has been diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus. We were told by several Doctors that this is never found in someone her age.
Does anyone have anything-similar going on?
What treatments do you use?
Did you have surgery?
What diet were you put on?
How long did they give you as far as the degree of your condition? How long have you lived with this condition?
What restrictions do you have?
What should I be doing to help her?
What resources are available to her?
Any information would be very helpful.

Please see the webpages for more details on Barrett鈥檚 esophagus.

I am surpised the doctor didn't explain more but, then again I am not. I have had Barretts for about 9 years (that I am aware of) and was 38 years old then. Most of what I have learned has been on my own on the web. You will find a gambit of info some of it very contradicting. I am sure by now you have found this out if you typed in barretts on a search engine. I don't know if your daughter has or has had heartburn trouble but, thats the main thing to prevent. Foods that cause it, soda, etc. Sleaping with 2 pillows to keep upper body raised to keep acid from washing up into esophigus. Medicine such as Nexium, Prilosec, tagamet, etc. I myself take Prilosec OTC because I can't afford the presription for Nexium I am supposed to be taking. As far as surgery goes there really isn't a surgery to change the cells back to normal. I am running out of letters. Your welcome to email me. cali_desert_man@yahoo.com
