Following this surgery can I drink alcohol and would I get intoxicated more rapidly or what are the effects?

I am a strong candidate for bariatric (weight reduction)\ surgery (47 BMI) (70"/330lbs) but I enjoy drinking about 4-5 Jack Daniels & water most evenings..

You are not a strong candidate for surgery!
Drinking that amount of alcohol makes you a very bad risk. To become a strong candidate for surgery more than just your weight is considered. Do you know the process which you have to go through? Its very demanding and you will be required to prove your compliance, it could be a set amount of weight loss before surgery or specific food limitations (my friend is awaiting this surgery and she is on a milk only diet which is HARD!!!). You will be required to stop drinking completely before surgery. You will likely have to see a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a dietitian and the surgeon and get approval of all of them. It isn't just weight they look at.
I am very overweight and also considered the surgery, but I decided to make a real effort on diet instead. I have lost around 85lbs since last July and am still just over 300lbs. It hasn't been easy at times but its such a reward in itself.
So look at your lifestyle, not just the weight!!!

you shouldn't get the surgery. you'll kill yourself. you've got to be kidding me with this. if you get the surgery, and keep drinking, you'll find out how quick things will happen. your stomach will be reduced to the size of a golf ball (approximately, depending on your condition). you'll not be able to eat much, or drink much for a while, and that is the point. does your doctor know about your drinking? it doesn't make you a good candidate, in my opinion.

i hope your doctor knows this. you don't sound sincere enough to want surgery if all you care about is drinking afterwards.

Eventually, you can drink alcohol, but you need to be careful because you will get drunk VERY easily. Both my brother and his wife have had bariatric surgery and they can barely make it through one drink now without feeling it.

I don't want to sound judgmental or rude - so if I do - sorry.
First, 4-5 JD's and water a night may lead to some other problems after your surgery. (Withdrawal)
Second, you realize that how much food and liquid you can take in is severely limited - you won't be able to handle 4-5 JD's and water.
Third, JD is alcohol and that is a lot of wasted calories.
Fourth, this surgery is not a fix it forever solution. You can stretch your stomach back out and be in the same place you are now.
I think you need to discuss this with your MD -if you choose not to - you are doing yourself more harm than good.

Alcohol is absorbed directly from the stomach, and I doubt the surgery would matter. Alcohol has 10 cal/cc, though and it does not help in trying to lose weight.

1) I have 7 months of the surgery the alcohol is not authorize yet. I belive is after the 9 months period.
2) The alcohol is sugar, the sugar had a very rapid effect on the bariatric patient.
3) The people I know that had the operation say to me that the alcohol is not the same that before of the operation.
4) TALK with your doctor.
