Is bariatric surgery a good option for extreme weight loss?

Is bariatric surgery a good option for extreme weight loss?

Depends on the situation. If you are morbidly obese, BMI over 40 or > 35 with any co-morbidities then the answer is yes. The odds of a person in these categories losing enough weight and keeping it off long term are 3%, not enough of a chance to nake it. Once your body hits a certain metabolic state, it is almost immpossible to reverse.

BEST ADVICE:
If you consider bariatric surgery, either Bypass, Band or BPD, ANY surgery, make sure that there is a programatic follow up protocol that supplies the following components:
Nutrition
Behavioral Health
Exercsie Physiology

Also, do a lot of research on potential surgeons, they are not created equal.

With the laparoscopic technique, the Gastric Bypass has a mortality rate of .18%, dont believe all the naysayers about the danger of the surgery, its no more dangerous than getting you gallbladder taken out. SEE STATEMENT ABOVE ABOUT SURGEON.

Is not an easy solution as scorpio-queen say.I had a gastric bypass 8 months ago an loss at the moment 100lbs. Is a desition that I never thing I going to take, but I have medical condition that loss weigth is the only option for a good quality of life. Is a battle to change the habit that make you fat.

Bariatric surgery is an option for extreme weight loss in case you have exhausted the other options of exercising and dieting. There are two types of bariatric surgeries to treat obesity: A restrictive operation such as stomach stapling or adjustable gastric banding decreases food intake, usually by decreasing the size of the stomach. A malabsorptive operation such as a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or a biliopancreatic diversion restricts food intake and decreases the digestion and absorption of food.
