I'm thinking about bariatric surgery for weight loss....?

I would like responses from anyone who may have had a gastric bypass in recent years.... was it worth it? Did you have insurance problems? Have you had to have sagging skin removed?? Was the whole process more difficult than you thought it would be?

Gastric bypass: Is this weight-loss surgery for you?
Are you a candidate for gastric bypass surgery? Find out what to expect and the benefits and risks involved.
It's always best to lose weight through a healthy diet and regular physical activity. But if you're among those who have tried and can't lose the excess weight that's causing your health problems, weight-loss (bariatric) surgery may be an option.
Gastric bypass, which changes the anatomy of your digestive system to limit the amount of food you can eat and digest, is the favored bariatric surgery in the United States. Most surgeons prefer this procedure because it's safer and has fewer complications than other available weight-loss surgeries. It can provide long-term, consistent weight loss if accompanied with ongoing behavior changes.
Gastric bypass isn't for everyone with obesity, however. It's a major procedure that poses significant risks and side effects and requires permanent changes in your lifestyle.
Who is gastric bypass surgery for?
Generally, gastric bypass surgery is reserved for people who are unable to achieve or maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise, are severely overweight, and who have health problems as a result. Gastric bypass may be considered if:
路Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity).
路Your BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and you have a serious weight-related health problems such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
Gastric bypass surgery doesn't replace the need for following a healthy diet and regular physical activity program. In fact, the success of the surgery depends in part on your commitment to following the guidelines given to you about diet and exercise. As you consider weight-loss surgery, make sure that you make every effort to exercise, change your eating habits and adjust any other lifestyle factors that have contributed to your excess weight

I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I鈥檓 180 and holding, after 1 year and 7 months. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I鈥檓 down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18.
Most people struggle with paying for the surgery. Go to this site, it is a great support system for you, because it鈥檚 only people who have had gastric bypass. Good luck with your surgery and new life!

My wifes best friend had it done 4 yrs ago. She now looks great, but she has had several health issues because of it. She has had to have the surgery repeated 2 times because her intestines twisted. She says she would not have done it had she known that these problems could happen after surgery. Doctors try to avoid letting poeple know how serious these problems can be. If successful you shouldn't have any problems but if you do they get to charge you again for the repeat surgeries due to complications.

I would worry about the complications. Cleansing helps you loose fast and is a healthy alternative.

Isagenix is a great cleanser.

Toxins in the body from commercial vegetables, fast foods, breathing dirty air, drinking unpurified water, and the loss of natural hormones contributes to weight gain, premature aging and nearly every age-related health problem. Over eating and consumption of the wrong types of food also contribute to weight gain and obesity.

Chemicals and toxins accumulate in fat tissue. The more chemicals and toxins, the more fat the body manufactures. Have you ever tried to lose weight only to be disappointed? Well, perhaps now you know the reason why! Most diets, lotions, pills, potions, and powders use unhealthy and potentially dangerous ingredients, such as ma huang, ephedra, and caffeine that promise fast weight loss. Yes, but the weight loss is primarily water and lean muscle. Minimal fat is lost because these products do not address the cleansing of the system.

Without proper cleansing the lost lean muscle and water return as fat, thus people are actually fatter versions of their prior selves. Chemicals and toxins are bound within fat tissue, and only specifically blended nutrients can contribute to releasing the chemicals from fat. This is the healthy alternative to nutritionally deficient, disappointing and potentially deadly diets.

keep in mind the following when looking to lose weight:

Diets ,changing your eating to healthy food choices and surgery can work but because we know so little about ourselves and our relationship with food, it makes it difficult to win the battle. A lot of us have problems with dieting because we have a problem called "emotional eating" we eat to comfort ourselves during difficult, stressful, sad, etc times in our lives.

You may experience all those emotions during dieting as we continuously get on the scale hoping to see a big difference in numbers after dieting only for a day or two. Also what is stressful when dieting is that we try to lose a large number of weight in such a short period of time which in most cases is unreasonable.

This all brings about stress, discomfort and sadness. When we feel this way, we turn to our best friend for help and support which for many of us is food. The diet is now broken and we feel that we can't stick to diets. We then try fad diet after fad diet hoping to lose the original 20 pounds and now we may have as much as 30 pounds to lose because we continue to put on weight as we continue to break these fad diets by binging before starting our next diet.

Please learn about your relationship with food before your next diet so that you may achieve your goals. To help a little, keep in mind the following:

You already know how to lose weight. You know that if you eat less and exercise more eventually you鈥檒l see the pounds come off. What鈥檚 getting in your way? Why do you usually regain the weight you lost? The answer to all these questions is the same 鈥淓motional Eating.鈥?Simply defined, emotional eating means you eat to satisfy emotional hunger; it means you use food for comfort or as a way to cope with life; and it means you eat for reasons other than what your body needs. Whenever you reach for a boredom-breaking snack despite your commitment, or whenever you eat to quell anxiety, that鈥檚 emotional eating. Whenever you binge after a fight, or double up on portions because your day turned sour, that鈥檚 emotional eating. Whenever you feel that sharp craving for your favorite food, that鈥檚 emotional eating. When we eat during these times while on a diet, we believe the diet doesn鈥檛 work or that we lack self control and then look for the quickest way to lose weight (fasting/diet pills, ect) after eating all we can since we already messed the diet day up. Read the information below but remember that emotional eating plays a big part in why we don鈥檛 continue dieting and why we regain lost weight and why we binge today and start a new diet tomorrow. Best of Luck.

P.S. After learning about my relationship with food, I was able to drop my weight from 263 pounds down to 151 pounds which is a 112 pound weight lost.
