Should I have my partner tested if I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis? |
I was recently diagnosed with BV. I think I've actually had it for a couple months now, but didn't know since I've never had a problem before and the symptoms were very mild. My and my husband have had sex in that time period after I think I developed it. Should he be tested? We plan on abstaining for about a month anyway because of this. I actually think it's because of having sex with him so I'm not sure if he would get it if that were the case? (We just started having sex when I think we got it, and he's the only person I've been with, and he hasn't been with anyone else since years ago.) I think the sexual activity messed up my PH. So could he still get it, or no? I don't want to pass it back and forth to each other. From what I understand from the times I've had BV, is that there could be bacteria going from your anus down to your vagina area during intercourse causing an infection. It can also cause UTI's. So just be super careful during sex to try to avoid it. Safe bet is to have him checked out. If he's got the bacteria growing on him, he'll pass it right back to you. BV isn't really a sexually transmitted infection per se. It's like of like a yeast infection, but involves a different micro-organism from yeast. Some doctors feel that too much sex can make the problem worse, especially if the guy isn't particularly clean. But he did not give this to you and you can't give it to him. BV can't really cause any problems with the penis, although it *might* cause a urinary tract infection in some guys (not super likely, though). You will probably not be passing it back and forth, any more than you could pass a yeast infection back and forth. you need to both take the meds and no sex without condoms because if you do it will just keep bouncing back and forth |
