Client with 'personal problem'?

I work with adults with learning disabilities, and one of our clients says he notices a strong fishy smell when washing under his foreskin - one usual symptom in a woman from bacterial vaginosis. I know its not an STD of any kind, so I'm a bit stumped.
Im looking for any obvious possibilities before we take him to a doctor, and risk distressing him - he does not like doctors.

Can a male have the penile equivalent of bacterial vaginosis?
Any ideas?

Let me clarify this, obviously as qualified care providers we are aware of basic hygiene. The chap is very clean in his nature, and mentioned it because he finds it distasteful. He is also in his 40's, so has obviously got life experience. Therefore it seems to be more than just a bit of smegma builf up.

'Head cheese' is not really helpful.

Well, fishy smell is a sign of bad hygiene. Ask him if he pulls back the foreskin and rubs under it with soap when he's soaping up the rest of his body in the shower. It should only take 5 to 10 seconds; that'll prevent this.

If he has a tight foreskin that prevents him from doing this, the following link should help:

Head Cheese

lol, it happens when you dont clean under the foreskin daily, or thouroughly, should be fine.

Yes

try proper hygene first and see if that takes care of it

He probably just doesn't clean often or well enough. Tell him to wash well several times a day, not only when he takes a shower or something. Maybe every time he goes to the bathroom.

Tell him not to rub fish on his penis.

It would probably be worse if he washed it too much because it would most likely be worse if it is moist. I would make sure he dries it after washing.
