Side Effects from taking HP PAC to treat H. Pylori?

I got H. Pylori and went on the HP PAC to treat it. One of my symptoms while on it was non-solid stools. It wasn't diarrhea, since my stomach didn't hurt, and it didn't smell, so I fugured it was just because the anti-bacterial medicine was killing ALL the bacteria in my digestive tract, including the good ones that help to process all that stuff in your colon.

It's been 4 days since finishing the treatment, and my bowel movements are more normal, but now I have new symptoms!! I have a yeast infection, as well as rectal itching and burning. When I go #2, it kind of feels like I'm passing glass or something, and I'm assuming that my rectal area is getting cut because there's a bit of blood. Yikes!

So my questions are:

Have you had similar symptoms from HP PAC?

Do you think the yeast infection is causing the anal irritation and sensitivity?

What else could it be? A fungal infection?

PS - I'll be talking to my doc tomorrow, but can I do anything now to help this?

The yeast infection is caused by taking the antibiotics, the Biaxin in the HP Pac is notorious for causing yeast infections. Treat accordingly with an over the counter product. Your doctor can prescribe Diflucan to treat this as well.

As far as the bowel movements, you are more than likely constipated, which could be a side effect of the medications or just something that happens to be going on with your body right now. You can buy an over the counter stool softener to help with your bowel movements. You may also have hemorrhoids which would be caused/aggravated from the hard stools. You may want to try some Preparation H or Tucks Pads or some simple witch hazel on your toilet paper to ease the pain.
