My son's and my pink eye won't go away!!!?

My son is two and he's had pink eye for 5 days now, me for 4. It's bacterial conjunctivitis and we've been on drops from our doctors to clear up the infection for 5 and four days respectively... here's the problem... our eyes are still getting crusted when we wake up and still red and itcy throughout alot of the day. It's a weekend so of corse we can't call the doctor. Are we still contageous even with eye medication to clear up the infection??? How long does it take to go away?

You both must keep reinfecting one another.......go back to the doctor ASAP

call your doctor immediately or go see him/her, or to the ER

it takes a while to clear up though.

Gawd! pink eye is awful!

It is common in summer months in Eastern India. Do not worry. And do not show red eyes to your husband. He is a nice guy, I assure you.

It might not be bacterial conjunctivitis, may be viral. I just got over viral pink eye, and it took awhile to clear up. Ask your Doc on Monday if this could be a possibility, I'm not making a diagnosis, just telling you the possibilities.

If it is viral, you are contagious until the symptoms go away completely.

this infection needs two forms of medications
antibiotic eye drops as gentamycin 2 drops 4 time daily
and antibiotic eye ointment as gentamycin also to be applied before sleep

I would also suggest that you change pillow cases every day, and maybe even sheets. Also, wash your hands thoroughly and disinfect your son's toys. Good luck! Call your doctor on Monday.
