Lower back pain and worried?

I have suffered from lower back pain for 3 years now and its getting worse. i,m in pain all of the time my back achs if i sit for to long, if i walk to far and if i try to lift or carry anything to heavey i,m really in agoney. I have been to the dr,s and i have got to go for a MRI scan, which i have got to have next wk. but i am worried and its playing on my mind does anyone know whats wrong because sometimes i,m in that much pain i become very snappy and i,m sick of taking pain relief tablets. i sometimes get pain in my left leg and bum but its not as painful as my back . its also starting to affect my job as i have to go up and down stairs a lot so when i get home i,m in a lot of pain and i have to sit up with my legs up and rest for a while. On a morning when i have to get up i can hardley move and i have to walk really slow for a while, also when i drive my car for a long time i can hardley walk when i get out and my back is then really painfull. can anyone tell me whats wrong

I'm a contortionist (I'm sure you know what that is, but if you don't it means a person who is unnaturally flexible) and I have never suffered from joint or back pain since I started. It sounds like you are simply stiff, which gets worse from sitting still or exerting too much pressure on to a joint.

I would reccommend gentle stretching. Lean down and touch your toes or arch your back to loosen it up. Don't take it too far; if it goes beyond the point of pain take it down a notch. It might take a while but you will find that the pain will lessen and you will feel much better. It might feel strange at first, but if you keep at it things will definitely get better.

Heat generally helps too, but only in the short term.

If that doesn't work, it will be something more serious and your GP will be able to do something about it, but I would definitely reccommend simple stretching.

Good luck, and I hope it clears up soon!

Go to the doctor and he should be able to refer you to an osteopath or a physiotherapist. Massage will probably help you.

Try to go to a homeopath/accupuncture or even a Chinese doctor. You'd be surprise on how more effective they are in finding out the source of the problem... Bit expensive but very worth it.

Check with a chiroptractor. Doing this may avoid having to go to surgery. It could be a # of things, such as a herniated disc, pitched nerve or a start of kidney problems..
Chriropractor will know for sure.. I trust them.. They helped me out.

I HAVE HAD THE SAME THING, MY mri SHOWED A BAD DISC. My Dr. did an epidural in the spine and I havent had any problems yet, thats been 2 years ago. Mine was so bad that I couldnt put any weight on my left heel. The Dr told me that I could only have 2 epidurals and then it would be back surgery. Of course I am careful, but I am not going to just sit and do nothing, I bowl, dance, and excercise. Check with you Dr. there are alot of options out there, but I am betting its a disc problem. Good Luck!

I got like the same problem. It's just that mine isn't as serious as yours. After your MRI scan, your doctor would probably tell you what's wrong. Maybe a disc slip or something? Your doctor would probably send you to see a physiotherapist for some massage and maybe to get you to do some exercises that would help strengthen your back muscles.

For the first few weeks of therapy, you would probably feel really sore and stuff. After awhile you would get use to it. So, don't worry. I'm sure things would turn out that bad. I hope this helps.

It's sound like sciatica with the pain in the bottom and leg as well as back ache.
I suffer from lower back pain and find the heat patches are very good.
I'm sure you have nothing to worry about and the MRI scan will just help to rule out possible causes or find the cause it's maybe a trapped nerve, good luck with it and don't worry!

Hi back pain tell me about it i have rheumatoid arthritis in mine its hell i have accupuncture for it it does really help .The numbness sounds like you have a prolapsed disc and it has trapped a nerve but please dont go by what im saying ask your doc about a pain clinic in your area.Get well soon & good luck
