I've had 2 knee injuries, and one surgery and more needed. Should I go back to playing basketball?

My knees catch and snap all of the time. It hurts, I need more surgeries, but i wanna ball so bad. I have no tears or anything, but I just have horrible knees with an unknown diagnosis. What should I do? I missed more than half of my Soph season and all junior season, and im missing my senior season as we speak...I want to ball in college and just for fun. I'm good at it, not to be conceided but I know I have massive skills and even more potential. I had colleges looking at me since my sophomore year (when i got my first injury). But now they all are turning me down. I wanna make a massive comeback and try out next year for their teams and show them what I have back after what I've gone through. What's my best bet here?

I don't know what type of knee surgeon you are seeing, but I would suggest seeing a knee specialist in sports medicine.

My 21 year old son plays basketball and has had two surgeries for ACL/meniscus injuries.

His doctor was the Head Physician for the US Olympic team in 04 and considered one of the nation's leading specialists. (based in Dallas, TX)

It is worth researching this and getting a couple opinions. I would say there is hope as orthopedic surgery has progressed tremendously.

Join the golf team. It's safer and makes sense.

Almost the exact thing happen to me in Football. If I were in your position I would play for the love of the sport. I played 1/4 of season. I would tape my mad skills the next time i started playing. Then try sending um to colleges quickly. Good luck to the both of us. :p

you gotta do what you love if playing basketball makes you happy due it if you dont you will regret it later on!!

If you do not have them get the steel hinged knee supports. They worked wonders for my knees. They are Velcro not elastic and wrap below and above the knee so there is no pressure on the actual knee joint.

I have Rheumatoid arthritis and one weekend in the brace taking the pressure off the joint did wonders.

Give these a try and give your knees time to heal, before trying to play ball.

Trust me I am 65 and once your knees are shot your life is much worse. After several years of bad knees the braces allowed mine to heal.

Good Luck.

I have a holistic method for you.

Buy very expensive sport shoes, and start running on a daily basis. The impacts through your joints will enable you to sustain the greater forces which will go through the knee joint during games of 'bball' (we're talking about 2000 Nm here btw...).

Training will aid in reducing liklihood of becoming injured during the game (which is FYI, a time when you are more likely to be injured that someone working down a coal mine...)
