Please answer only if you understand back injuries.....Help??

I am having surgery in less than two months for L4-L5 & S1 herniation and annular tears. I take Celebrex morning and night and muscle relaxers if possible (I have two young children). I have had significantly bad pain in my lower back for the past two days and there is a baseball size swollen area on my lower spine, where the discs are I assume. I dont remember doing anything specifically but its very painful and I need to maintain my household. What could this be and what can I do??

L4 ,L5 ' and S1 are all located in the very lower part of your back S1 is the tail bone so if you swelling is in that area and that is where you have been told you need surgery then I would assume that you do indeed need the surgery unfortunately not much you can do other than listen to your doctors advice

If you have a swollen area, that's probably the herniation.

I had surgery 2 years ago where a piece of bone had broken off at L5. Surgery was a piece of cake, and I was back at work 2 weeks later.

Good Luck.

This might be a bleeding problem. You probably have to see your doctor for this because bleeding might be a side effect of the medications, and only your doctors will be able to change them. It could also be related to tearing something in your back due to physical stress. Plus, your doctor might be able to move up the day of your surgery.

In the meantime, think seriously about getting help with cleaning the house, childcare, gardening and possibly even cooking because it sounds like you're not getting enough rest. Back pain is not something you can just work through.
