I have a lower back injury and doc advised not sitting. Sitting is the most painful position -- help?

Doc says "sitting" in a regular chair increases the weight pressure on lower back (and therefore my injury) tremendously and I should not sit until injury is well. It is a common injury; many people suffer from it.

HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF A SPECIAL "CHAIR" FOR THIS?

I can not work if I have to stay lying on my back (i don't DO that kind of "work" you dirty minded wormlets! lol). Seems to me others must have this same dilema, any hints, answers?

Having had disk compression, back surgery, broken back and fractured hip over an eight year period I can understand the discomfort. I went out and searched several places until I found a recliner that fit. Since I am 6'3" it was difficult to find one that my shoulders was under the back cushion and gave head support. I finally did and it is the most comfortable thing ever purchased. It is a bit oversized due to the design/stuffing but worth it. Now when I overdo it and my back feels achy I can sit in there and lean back for half an hour and get good relief. Important thing is a proper body fit.

I broke my tailbone about 2 years ago and it hurt so bad! At the time I was going to school and i had to drive 2 1/2 hours a day just for school. It was the worst pain, and nothing made it better. The really bad part is that it took so long to heal. Still 2 1/2 years later, if I sit for extended periods of time it starts to hurt, but not as bad. I have never heard of a spinal chair, inless it is one of those that you put your knees on a padded bench and the tip og your tush on another padded bench, so you are kind of kneeling, but not really.
