Repeated Chest Injuries?

For the third time I suffered a chest injury causing considerable pain and I know I'm in for a minimum of 2 and possibly up to 4 weeks of difficult sleeping. On each occasion I have been turning or pushing. First time I was turning round in a car pushing my right side against the seat side to reach one of my children in the back. Second time I was ten-pin bowling and just in the process of releasing the ball, third time (a couple of days ago) I was moving (pushing) my aircraft (weighs about 1900lbs) over a difficult piece of concrete.

In each instance I feel a sudden pop or "give" in my chest. There isn't normally a great deal of immediate pain, but over the following few hours it builds up.

I know that the treatment is not to undertake that activity for a few weeks and pain killers when required, but just exactly what am I damaging each time and is there some way to stop it happening again?

I fell off my bicycle and heard a definite pop. I was in agony for 2-3 weeks. I thought I cracked a rib but as luck would have it a neighbor of mine had just been to the doctors for a similar thing. Doc told him the cartilage can tear or separate and not a big deal except for the pain.

We are both better and ok....just time and gritting our teeth.

I just remembered another time this happened in a tobogganing accident a long time ago. That time I did get an x-ray but it showed nothing...same deal, take it easy for a few weeks.

If i had to guess, it sounds like a hernia to me. Did you go see the doctor? Because chests aren't supposed to 'pop' at all! And try catching the condition early before it gets so bad you need surgery.
