How long do rib injuries take to heal? |
I had to have surgery on my lower ribs on both sides. A few centimeters were resected from two ribs on one side, and from one rib on the other side. My doctor said it could take anywhere between 6 weeks, to 6 months to feel better. He said it greatly varied. I'm curious as to others with rib injuries, how long did it take your ribs to heal when injured? Thanks. six weeks is for healthy folks who dont smoke.. if you smoke it will take longer.... mine took 9 and a half weeks LIekly a year I had one bone off from the base of my spin and it was free flaoting as it were it was 6 monthes until it started feeling normal. a very long time.some people feel pain throughout their life.the younger you are generally the faster the ribs heal but people and healing time vary. I bruised my ribs once, anbd that took over a month to stop hurting. Every time I breathed deep, I felt it in front and back. That was not fun. I cracked two ribs in a motorcycle accident and it took two full months to heal. Now six months later if I bend to far to one side I can still feel some discomfort. I broke 3 ribs once and it took all of 6 weeks for them to heal. I was working on a crab boat in alaska at the time so the activity itself delayed the healing process. 6 weeks sound right as long as your activity level is low and you don't do anything to aggravate the ribs. Good luck and heal soon. iv broke a few a couple of times and there's really nothing you can do but take pain killers. but id say i got better in6 to 8 weeks sleeping was the worst. after 3 to 4 weeks the pain gradually started to lessen.don't do any thing to strenuous It all depends !some times they really never fully heal!and coughing can separate them again! just take it slow no heavy lifting for sometime! |
