Are there any exercises/activities for a bedridden child? |
My son was hit by a car on Father's Day. Luckily the only injury he received was a badly broken leg. He will be bedridden for at least a month. He is 10 years old and VERY VERY active. Playing board games, play station and PSP just isn't cutting it. I'm trying to figure out how I can get at least his upper body moving. I tried small weights but that lasted about 3 seconds. Can anyone think of an activity he could do to get rid of some of his pent up energy? Thanks for your help. How about tossing a nerf ball around with him! ? You can even get the kind that you can throw in a basketball hoop that you set up on the back of a door or somewhere convenient. Or, how about nerf darts? Or if you have a keyboard around he can learn easy songs, if he's musical. Or a small set of drums.....if it won't drive you crazy. First, thank heavens he was not badly hurt! try to give him some weights to keep his upper strenght going and may be some stomach crunches too. You might want to give him a tennis ball or a small rubber baller to toss at targets you tape on the wall. also you may want to try a beach ball he and his friends can play volleyball with....hope everything goes well with your son!!!!! I'm very sorry for your son's incident. Thank god you still have him and in good mental health. Maybe consult your family physician for ideas. Call the local rehabilitation center/PT office or local hospital resource center and get him in there. It will be a place he can go with people who will encourage him to exercise in ways that will keep him busy and healthy.. |
