How do you treat vertical palm cut properly?(with step provided)?

i will need to finish my homework by finding out how to treat a person who have a cut on his palm vertically. i know usually people juz put sum medicine on the cut and leave it there but i need the method to use bandage to wrap the injury up and i need a step by step method.preferably singapore red cross method but others are welcome too.

1. Clean the wound.
2. Use some kind of antiseptic on it.
3. Put butterfly stiches along the wound to keep the edges together.
4. Bandage the wound as follows;
- wrap the bandage around the wrist
- over the palm and behind the thumb
- around the wrist again
- over the back of the hand
- across the palm in the other direction
- round the wrist again
- repeat
This works for most central palm cuts, but any ones in funny places I don't have a clue to bandage! Butterfly stictches are little pieces of microporus tape which close the lips of the wound, prevent it bleeding and minimise scarring. Before starting this, make sure the person's hand is above the level of their heart as it will stop them bleeding all over you. Have fun with the homework!

put a couple of bandaids on it and tell the person not to bend there hand. if they listen and dont end there hand at all the bandaids will stay on and the cut will get better.

but if the person doesnt listen to you and does bend there hand then your kind of out of luck.

First get the person to use their other hand to apply direct pressure to the bleed. While they are doing this get them to lie down and raise their legs to minimise the effects of hypovolaemic shock (losing too much blood).

Now put a pair of disposable gloves on and find a sterile dressing and a triangular bandage. Call for an ambulance if the bleeding is severe.

Ensure the person keeps their injured palm open and apply the sterile dressing, taking care not to touch the part which will come into contact with the wound. Ensure the pad extends over the whole wound and bandage in place with a figure of eight with the bandage tight around the wound and the wrist, but not too tight. Always leave the thumb free so that you can check the capillary refill (where you press the nail for 5 seconds and make sure the colour comes back within 2 seconds).

Once finished with the dressing, tie it off with a reef knot, preferably over the wound itself and then apply an elevation sling so that the wound is kept elevated to reduce bleeding and swelling (it is harder for blood to travel against gravity!).

If blood seeps through the first dressing, apply another on top. If it seeps through a second, apply another. If it seeps through a third, remove all dressings and start again, ensuring the pad is directly over the wound.

Treat for shock by keeping them warm with a blanket (not a direct source of heat) etc. until the ambulance comes. Or take/send them to hospital with the elevation sling on, and checking capillary refill every 10mins at least.

Washing the wound is not essential as stopping the bleeding comes first. If the bleeding is not severe, then a quick wash with water or saline may be appropriate. If the wound was horizontal then I would recommend the casualty gripping a pad and then the bandage of the dressing keeping the fist in a fist (leaving the thumb free). This is not appropriate for a vertical wound as it would make the wound gape open.
