Strange Hip Ache?

Lately, I've been having an odd pain in my right hip, near the bikini line. It's not so much of a pain as it is an extremely uncomfortable ache or sometimes burning sensation. If I sleep on my right side, it almost feels as though it is inflamed when I wake up, as if I had been lit on fire. It doesn't hurt unless I touch it and shows no visible signs of injury.

I'm sixteen years old, so it was suggested to me that it could be growing pains and that my hips could be pushing further out. But still, I thought I'd seek further answers. Any ideas or ways to treat it?

if you are athletic, you may have injured your hip flexor... it kind of sucks and there is really no way of curing it other than not using it which is virtually impossible. and even if you could immobilize it, it would take many weeks to heal. if you are concerned, go see your doctor.

Well, you're awfully young for bursitis of the hip, but it's a definite possibility. I have had trochanteric (hip) bursitis for years, and it's ALWAYS worse if I sleep on that side. It's one of the main indicators of bursitis, actually. Try icing it several times a day and take an anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen. If it doesn't help, see a doc. They may want to do more tests, but if it's bursitis, I guarantee that an injection of steroid and lidocaine into the bursa will make you feel tons better.

I'm almost due for a shot and can't wait til I can get some relief!

if it persists you really should see a doctor about it.could be growing pains- almost sounds more like a muscle tear.i fell on my hip-exercise helped, but marginally.i have been taking gloucosamine and condroitin-helps mend muscle tissue back together and strenghthens it(2a day)daily and- what a difference!i have more mobility and the pain is less than a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10.you can get it over the counter at any major grocery store.do see a doc, though- what's going on with you is not normal. good luck!
