Has a mentally ill woman chosen to have a baby?

I am a kinda normal but intellectually gifted (Yale) person who had a rough life and ended up mentally ill. I'm not a nutcase and I am totally normal in public but my endurance for a day is shorter than another's, sometimes I have difficulty speaking or thinking or get lost, I sometimes experience a great deal of mental pain and have to be in bed, sometimes have little ability to deal well with people emotionally (so I go home).
I want a baby. I know I can't take care of one by myself, so I guess I would have to have a nanny. I suppose she would be full-time because I cannot tell when I will be ill, though I would be with the child as much as I could. This all means I gotta find a guy with enough income to cover these expenses.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has ever been in my shoes? Did you have a child after you became ill (or maybe you were always ill)? Tell me about your experience please.

PLEASE read carefully my description. Before I was getting people who were really discriminatory, as though I were out of control, schizophrenic, and/or an idiot. Read what I wrote. That is my condition. I would be with the child well over 50% of the time and that's a lot better than a working parent. I am not being stupid. My IQ is over 150. Mental illness is no more or less awkward in my life as if I had failed kidneys. And I am worth just as much. Thank you for not being a bigot.

soemtimes highly intelligent people can be autistic. you should look into this. don't have a baby because you can't always rely on hired help. what if the nanny doesn't show up one day? maybe you could volunteer at a preschool to visit/read to children when you feel well?

Why do you want a baby?

If you are not able to take care of a baby by yourself, you shouldn't have one. A baby needs their mother. If the mother is not there, it hurts the child.

I'm not mentally ill myself but I have a sister who became schizophrenic after she had her first child and was hospitalized and put on meds, she then went on to have a second child. She didn't stay on her meds and her extreme moods - very violently angry when manic and delusional was a terrible way to bring up her kids. They were in foster care on and off. Think about your child and what type of parent you'd be as it's a 24/7 job. You have to be there for them - when they're sick, potty training, making sure they have adequate clothing, food, activities, spiritual training. It's very big and very serious responsibility.

Don't get the baby, support or help take care of another's and live vicariously through that relationship.

I see no reason why you could not have a child. As long as you have the love and financial capabilities. Be sure you're ready - kids are a long-term investment!

All over the world kids are being raised in despicable conditions, by mentally healthy people. As long as you're not violent or abusive and keep touch with reality, I see no reason you can't have a child.
