I just found out I have gestational diabetes, What are some good sites for meals and care?

I only have a little over one month of pregnancy to go but I want to take care of myself and baby. I would also like advice on what to do after pregnancy to continue care of myself since this increased my already higher risk of type 2 diabetes later in life due to heredity and obesity. I already know lose weight.
Thanks.

I've included a link to the American Diabetes Association's section on gestational diabetes. It has a lot of good information for you.

If you are at risk of T2 Diabetes anyway, it's difficult to know if it has developed or if you are truely having gestational diabetes. After you deliver, it will be important to monitor your blood sugar levels closely to see if it goes away (as gestational does).

The hospital you are planning to use for your delivery probably has a staff diabetes specialist, either a nutritionist or nurse that works with diabetic patients. Call and ask. You can probably get an appointment or a phone consult with this person to help you with diet choices, etc. that are specific to you and your situation. They usually have lots of printed information like recipe books and substitution lists to help you make the healthiest food choices.

You are right about losing weight, it's the best thing you can do...after the baby comes. Often maintaining healthy weight levels can keep diabetes at bay.

Good Luck to you and your new baby!!

contact the diabetics society or go to web site for all your ans to your problem and hope its a healthy baby good luck and g bless

This article talks about a seminar that is over, but had some good advice - eat whole foods and not much fat:

https://www.plusline.org/article.php?id=...

This web site has a lot of low fat recipes. It is vegetarian, but then meat has a lot of fat & you should cut back on it and eat more fruits, vegetables, & whole grains. Try a breakfast item 1st since most people don't eat meat at breakfast anyway...

You could also call or go to your local Seventh-day Adventist Church and ask them if they have any cooking schools planned or seminars for diabetics or if there is just someone who could share recipes with you. Most SDA churches do a lot of seminars on health so they would be willing to help you. The people at the church won't care if you're not an SDA. They might invite you to church but you aren't pressured to attend.

Around '92 I started changing my diet to vegetarian and my health has been blessed for it. I know you will find benefits, too, and diabetes can be reversed by changing your lifestyle.

If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me personally.

Blessings on you & the baby.....

The best resource I can give you is a diabetic educator. They are such great people and they can calculate the amount of carbs you should have for each meal and help you with the right dose of medicine and stuff like that. I see one and I have 24 hour access to him at any time of need. He is a blessing. Good luck!!
