My baby has RSV?

My baby was diagnosed with RSV on Monday. What I was knowing how long does it take babys to get over it. Im taking care of her and doing what needs to be done at home. Please help!

'Tis the season for RSV. Keep your baby at home. Keep visitors away. Cool mist humidifier with distilled water is a good bet. Keep her hydrated. Try to keep the fever down. Monitor her breathing CLOSELY. If she begins to get labored with her breathing, call the Dr right away. Give her all the medicine as prescribed, including breathing treatments.

Like any virus, RSV must run it's course. Some kids get over the worst of it in a few days, others may take a few weeks to get back to normal. There's just no way to tell.

And what is RSV for those of us who don't do alphabet soup? for all respiratory problems: get a cool mist humidifier, and add a pint of hydrogen peroxide to the gallon tank. run this close to the baby about all the time. The mist will work to disinfect from the outside while the body works to heal from the inside. Peroxide is something your body makes to clean itself up, so you are not introducing an alien molecule.

That's a question you really need to ask your doctor.

It a virus. Probably a week or so. Just take care like you would if he/she had a cold. The only worry regarding RSV is it can cause more complications in children with respiratory problems such as premies or babies with asthma. If his/her breathing is worrisome take them to see the doctor, otherwise let the virus run its course.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a negative sense, single-stranded RNA virus of the family Paramyxoviridae, which includes common respiratory viruses such as those causing measles and mumps. RSV is a member of the paramyxovirus subfamily Pneumovirinae.

RSV causes respiratory tract infections in patients of all ages. It is the major cause of lower respiratory tract infection during infancy and childhood. In temperate climates there is an annual epidemic during the winter months. In tropical climates, infection is most common during the rainy season. In the United States, 60% of infants are infected during their first RSV season, and nearly all children will have been infected with the virus by 2-3 years of age. Natural infection with RSV does not induce protective immunity, and thus people can be infected multiple times. Sometimes an infant can become symptomatically infected more than once even within a single RSV season. More recently, severe RSV infections have increasingly been found among elderly patients as well.

For most people, RSV produces only mild symptoms, often indistinguishable from common colds and minor illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control consider RSV to be the "most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia among infants and children under 1 year of age1." For some children, RSV can cause bronchiolitis, leading to severe respiratory illness requiring hospitalization and, RARELY, causing death. This is more likely to occur in patients that are immunocompromised or infants born prematurely.

Recurrent wheezing and asthma are more common among individuals who suffered severe RSV infection during the first few months of life than among controls; whether RSV infection sets up a process that leads to recurrent wheezing or whether those already predisposed to asthma are more likely to become severely ill with RSV is a matter of considerable debate.

Most babies get over it with proper nursing and treatment. Make sure your house is well ventilated. No smoking in the house (NOTE.). Frequent monitoring of her temperature is a must.
