Healthcare in the US?

I live in Cananda and I read something about someone not being able to afford to go to a doctor. I couldnt imagine.
I can go to the doctor whenever I want for anything minor.
Now I am 37 weeks pregnant, I see my doctor every week
and it will cost me nothing to have the baby.
Of course it is without its faults, it is considered "reactive medicine" My grandmother had a heart attack and they will only react to life threatening problems when they arise. She ended up getting the care she needed but it did take alot longer than it would in the states. It is almost impossible to get a family doctor and there is desparate need for nurses.
That being said there are alot of free programs to keep canadians healthy and out of the hospitals free breastfeeding clinic, telehealth Ontario (free hotline to speak to a registered nurse)
what does anyone think of the healthcare systems????

Thank you everyone for your insight, I wanted to hear from citizens..

I think the healthcare in the US is a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!! They rip you off on premiums and that's if u can even afford a premium, and if you're too poor to pay a premium, you go to the medicaid department where they'll deny you because you're not pregnant or disabled. But as you're leaving the office a flock of foreigners come in to pick up their monthly medicaid cards. It's a disgrace!!!!!!!!

You would think that the U.S being the country that it is, we would have a great health care system. We don't. The elderly are way overcharged for their medicine. We also have a sortage of nurses, and if you go to the emergency room they will charge you for a cup of water! I think this might actually be more a corporate thing than a government thing, but the government could help more if it really wanted too. If it REALLY wanted to.

I think our healthcare system sucks. I pay $120/week for our health insurance through my employer and I still have co-pays (although they are very low). I think it won't be long before we start to see hospitals closing in this country. Because the people who can afford healthcare are paying the price for the people who can't, and pretty soon, they're gonna have the prices so high the people who could afford it won't be able to anymore. And with the way insurance companies are anymore, we are becoming a "reactive" care system little by little. Also, my husband lives in the states now, but will not take the "oath" of the US because he wants to keep his Canadian citizenship in case he ever gets seriously ill (like cancer). He says if we ever get really sick like that, that we are moving back to Canada where it's free.

Greetings,
The healthcare, just like anything else in the US, is a business. The goal is not to take care of people鈥檚 health, but to provide profits. USA is a capitalistic country and profit governs every aspect of life. This applies not only to our healthcare, but to our wars, our zeal against drugs, and just about everything you could think off. Besides, having babies is no one鈥檚 priority; we could always import them from Mexico.
Cheers!
