In your life so far, what has surprised you most?

In our family we have begun a tradition of asking an off the cuff "birthday question" at each persons birthday dinner. I try to come up with questions that will evoke pleasant thoughts. This was last nights question for my 53 year old "baby brother." His answer was that coming from a small town he was constantly amazed at how insensitive and how uncareing most city raised people really are. Am I out of touch? It seems to me that most of us are caring and if anything oversensitive to the suffering of others. Any way I wonder how most of you would anser this same question. In your life so far, what has suprised you most?

How very fast life can change... Bamm... and your in a totally different world. This can happen in the blink of an eye.

The callousness of some people... like what your brother was speaking of.

And... it has surprised me that we can find happiness and peace in such small things... I guess it would be stop and smell the roses... those roses can be pretty nice.

The thing that came to my mind first would be loosing 53lbs in less than one month, its a long story and not very pleasant to remember.

That I have lived this long

Having raised two wonderful daughters, it never ceases to amaze me that it was legal in this country to murder and flush down a toilet, my two grandchildren. I had so much love to share with them and I have been grieving for several years, especially when I see other beautiful babies with their grandparents. Nothing in life prepared me for this tragedy of "inconvenience".

I get my first kiss..well its my girlfriend act it. :)

My ability to bounce back from adverse and or negative situations and circumstances I have encountered in my life. We really do not realize what we can cope with until we are faced with it. To give up has never been an option so I just do the best I can to produce the best possible outcome.

I was surprised the most by the intense feeling of love I immediately had for my baby and to know that as much as I love her, God loves her more than I do.
