Why doesn't Inderal work anymore?

I have had chronic high blood pressure for awhile now. I am not at all overweight and am 38 years old. I have a strong genetic disposition to this condition. I have been taking Inderal for it since I am breastfeeding since it is the safest drug for lactating mothers. I went to my doctor on Wed for a BP check and it was only slightly elevated 136/96. However, when I went to the urgent care this morning for an ear infection it was 223/136! They wouldn't even let me leave until it went down some. I have taken 3 Inderal today per my dr's advice and it still the same! It seems to be having NO effect! Has anyone ever heard of this? Inderal has always worked before...for many years now...but suddenly it no longer does. I have had anxiety issues for some time now since having my babies but until today this had not had an adverse effect on my BP. My therapist suggested I might have hyperthyroidism since I have been losing weight without trying. Will see dr. Mon but until then I am freaking.
